Meet Dr. Parikshit Gogoi, a distinguished visiting research scholar currently immersed in a journey at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) under the Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence fellowship. Dr. Gogoi is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Nowgong College in Assam, India, with a passion for biomass-based chemicals, fuels, and materials.
Since September 25, 2023, Dr. Gogoi has been steering his research towards the catalytic conversion of lignin bio-oils components to aromatics and fuel range hydrocarbons. With a robust background in chemistry, including a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from CSIR-NEIST, India, and a Raman Fellowship for Post Doctoral Research at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Dr. Gogoi brings a wealth of experience to the ISTC community.
What drew Dr. Gogoi to this specific realm of research? A deep-seated commitment to sustainable development in his home state in northeastern India. “I am from a biodiversity hotspot with abundant biomasses that could be industrially utilized for sustainable development,” says Dr. Gogoi. His research not only captivates him personally but also holds significant importance for his state and the broader global energy landscape.
In the pursuit of biomass conversion processes, the chemistry lab has become Dr. Gogoi’s haven. Designing laboratory experiments and analyzing reaction products are pivotal to the success of his project. Fortunately, the instrumental facilities at ISTC and UIUC provide the ideal environment for him to do his work.
