Emmarie Alexander is one of four Illinois students awarded a Barry M. Goldwater scholarship for their potential to contribute to the advancement of research in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering. Alexander is a junior and animal science major at the University of Illinois. Her research ranges from molecular to field studies, seeking to shed light on the ecology of carnivores and understand human-animal conflicts from multiple angles. She is currently studying the behaviors of urban red foxes and coyotes in Champaign-Urbana with Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) researcher Max Allen.
