The COVID-19 virus has affected individuals all over the world. Illinois is no exception. Since spring break 2020, college life for students has changed drastically. Students now take classes virtually and are limited to social interactions through technology. It feels like we are all in a tunnel, searching for the light at the end. Your student’s life here at Illinois changed, but not for the worst. COVID-19 created a hurdle to overcome, and your student will come out of this situation better than ever.
- They have learned to adapt to new situations.
- Discovered new resources Illinois offers.
- Learned to problem solve and gained time management skills.
Your student is resilient and will come from this experience more skilled and ready to take on the professional world than before. They now have a new platform in job interviews to talk about their COVID-19 experience and what it taught them. They got this!
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Students will return to Illinois and lounge on the Quad, play intramural sports with their friends, rediscover friendships, and of course take their picture with Alma. We encourage our families to come to campus when its safe and enjoy time with their student. Feel the Illini spirit when you stroll through campus and discover Illinois’ resiliency. Illinois needs you. You are a very important factor in the success of your student here at Illinois.
Illinois will pull through this and be stronger than ever. Things are different, and obstacles have been put in the way, but Illinois is here for your student and will continue to strive to do our best to help your student succeed. We are in this together!
We ask our families to have patience with the university. We are adapting to the changes that have occurred and are doing our best to move forward from this unprecedented situation. We look forward to the day when we see you and your student back on campus. If you have questions, always know the Parent and Family Programs Office is here to listen and assist you. Go Illini!
