The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $2 million to a team, comprised of Gaurav Bahl (UIUC MechSE assistant professor, lead principal Investigator) and Taylor Hughes (UIUC Physics associate professor), with Steven Cummer (electrical engineering, Duke), and Hailin Wang (physics, Oregon). They make up one of nine research groups of engineering-led, interdisciplinary researchers working to break the conventional ways in which light and sound waves propagate. Their proposal is titled, "Reconfigurable pathways and directionality for sound using time-varying engineered materials."
