Rishi Mohan puts a priority on project management, so of course he would pursue industrial engineering and plans to be on the business team of Illini Solar Car! In addition to selecting a rigorous major, he previously attended the Exploring Mechanical Science & Engineering summer camp at the Grainger College of Engineering. Rishi is planning to join the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers at Illinois (IISE) and has made a big time commitment with his RSO’s.
Rishi says some of the goals he has are to get certifications that benefit him in the field and to continue working in teams in RSO’s to develop his skills. Now a freshman at Illinois and an alumni of Metea Valley High School, Rishi says, “One big thing I did was robotics for five years.” Some of his favorite memories from attending the Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering program (WYSE) were the late night card games like Mao. The camp helped him see a good representation of the atmosphere of the campus, and its proximity to home helped make the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign a good option. If Rishi could give advice to high schools students questioning majoring in engineering, he’d tell them, “If you ever consistently wondered how things work, then you probably have a good mind set for engineering.”
WYSE was glad to catch up with our previous summer camper, Rishi, at our first ever Ice Cream Social.
