In Sweet Bitter Love, new works by the artist Jeffrey Gibson (a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent) re-frame and re-interpret stereotypical images of Native Americans. As he engages with the past and upends the myths of settler colonialism, Gibson attests to Native resilience in the present. The exhibition is now on view at the Newberry Library through September 18, and is free and open to all.
