UIC serves over 33,500 students comprising what is among the most diverse student bodies in the nation with 16 colleges, 16,000 faculty and staff. UIC has been designated a Minority Serving Institution, a Hispanic Serving Institution and an Asian-American and Native-American Pacific Islander Serving Institution. The Director develops and implements academic support initiatives for a targeted UIC student population (American Indian / Alaska Native) that enhances student transition from high school, assists students in acclimating to college learning strategies, and promotes indigenous programming and initiatives as part of a broader commitment to multiculturalism. The Director provides leadership in promoting recruitment and academic support services to Native American students to increase student enrollment, retention and graduation rates. The Director fosters relationships with local and national Native American organizations.
