Chancellor Michael Amiridis has graciously supported the launch of a new scholarship to encourage first-generation, first-year students to study abroad. The Chancellor’s FirstGen Flames Abroad Scholarship is designed to award first-year students with high potential whose parent(s) did not complete a bachelor’s degree with a scholarship to study abroad. Students will be notified during their first year at UIC if they have earned the scholarship and will have the remainder of their time at UIC to use the scholarship towards the costs of an approved UIC faculty-directed or exchange program.
Scholarship amounts: 10 students will be selected to receive a scholarship to study abroad. Scholarship amounts will vary depending upon the length of program the recipients choose:
- Less than 3 weeks: $1,600
- 3-6 weeks: $2,100
- Semester: $2,600
Applications are now open for Spring 2021! Students can apply on UIC Snap by April 15th!
Attend our upcoming information session on March 17th, 2021 at 12:00 PM CST to discover more.
Pop-Up Advising Series:
The Pop-Up Study Abroad Advising Series is a student-led program in partnership with the Study Abroad Office and various student support units on campus. It is designed to help students learn about studying abroad on a more personal level. During the open advising sessions, students will learn more about the experience of learning abroad from UIC peer advisors. Additionally, an advisor from the Study Abroad Office and collaborating support unit will be available for inter-departmental guidance.
Students are highly encouraged to attend and get their initial questions answered about funding, locations and programs, and about the academic, professional, and personal benefit studying abroad offers.
