    iSEE is proud to launch the newest addition to the Greener Campus Programs: the Certified Green Event! This program encourages all entities — from RSOs to offices to Greek chapters — to host sustainable events by addressing transportation, energy conservation, and waste reduction. Your event can earn certification — even if it is held remotely — by committing to five or more sustainability actions based on our guide: using natural lighting or recycled paper, for instance, or making it convenient for public transportation.

    RFF 2021 Summer Research Internship Program

    Are you interested in policy research aimed at improving environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions? Resources for the Future is accepting applications for interns to work on five projects this summer: control of industrial greenhouse gas emissions; energy transition policy; wildfire, climate adaptation, and rural communities; parks, green space, and environmental justice; and developing U.S. and Canadian electric power transmission network models.   • Rachel Carson Council Campus Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity designed for students who have a passion for sustainability and environmental justice

    RCC is excited to share that we are extending the application deadline for the Fellowship program to this Friday, May 8th. 

    We were incredibly excited to see the volume of interest in the fellowship program this year and we wanted to be sure that everyone interested had the opportunity to apply. 

    As apart of the Rachel Carson Council Campus Programs, the Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity designed for students who have a passion for sustainability and environmental justice. As part of the program, students will work on a campaign or project on your campus to promote sustainability over the course of the next academic year.

    Our current fellows have engaged in a number of ambitious projects, from divestment to tackling campus food insecurity. Read about our current fellows and their projects here. 

    Students accepted into the program will receive a $2,000 (!!) stipend over the course of the year for their work. Furthermore, they will get to attend a grassroots organizing training with RCC, as well as the opportunity to publish about their work over the course of the year through RCC.

    The application process is very simple, requiring only a one-page proposal, a resume, and a letter of reference from a professor. You can find the application for the program here.

  • Professor Daniel Schneider named 2020-21 iSEE Teaching Sustainability Fellow

    The Levenick iSEE (Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment) Fellows Program accomplishes iSEE’s goal of actionable research — that is, work that leads to lasting, real-world solutions to the world’s current and future sustainability-, energy- and environment-related issues.

    Daniel Schneider is a Professor in the Department of Urban + Regional Planning. He is an ecologist and environmental historian whose research focuses on the interrelations between natural and human systems in planning and management.

    The Levenick funding will help Schneider develop a course titled “FAA 230: Sustainable Design of the Built Environment,” a core course in the newly created B.S. in Sustainable Design program in the College of Fine and Applied Arts.

  • Paid Research Internship on Art Ecology in New Mexico, summer 2021

    Apply between Dec 1 and Feb 12.  The goals of the selected Art Research Experiences for Undergraduates (Art REUs) will be to observe and interpret the ecology, research, and landscape of the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico through the creation of artistic works (e.g., photography, painting, sculpture, videos).  These artworks will be used to cultivate the understanding among the general public in studying, restoring, and protecting the ecology and landscapes present within the SNWR. Lodging is provided. A $6,000 stipend and $500 food allowance also provided, with some travel costs and material costs provided.

  • Online Geothermal Research Workshop Set for Nov. 5

    "Low-Temperature Geothermal Research and Applications" will bring together scientists, engineers, practitioners, decision-makers, and stakeholders involved in low-temperature geothermal energy studies, developments, and policy-making. A group of experts from the U of I and national and international organizations will present on innovative research undertaken for low-temperature geothermal exchange, direct use heating and cooling, and underground thermal energy storage. 

    The event, which is free and open to the public, will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on the design, development, and use of these geothermal energy technologies.
