  • Students Pushing Innovation internship at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications

    Are you an Illinois undergraduate looking for your next internship experience? The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is looking for highly motivated, creative undergraduate students to work on hands-on research projects with guidance from NCSA staff and faculty affiliates. The center will offer a limited number of paid SPIN (Students Pushing Innovation) internships during Summer 2021 (June-July, 20 hrs/week). No restriction on year of study or major. $12.50/hour paid.   • Government Job Fair for public service careers

    Friday 11/13/2020 from 1-4pm on Handshake. Students and alumni seeking public services careers are invited to participate and meet with recruiters from a range of government areas, including city, county, state and federal. Register early for the available group and one to one sessions with recruiters.  Be aware the MOST of the employers at this fair will require CITIZENSHIP for their opportunities. Research each organization prior to the fair, prepare a professional resume and practice appropriate employer etiquette.

    First and second year undergraduates are encouraged to apply by December 20.   Ideal candidates should demonstrate at least one semester or summer of engagement in research/creative inquiry and exhibit excellent communication skills. Such candidates should be reliable, organized, personable, and respectful.

    ‘TED Talk: Eco-Edition’ Celebrates America Recycles Day!

    Nov. 15, 6pm. America Recycles Day! Our first community hosts — Nichole Millage, City of Champaign Environmental Sustainability Specialist, and Susan Monte, Champaign County Planner and Recycling Coordinator — will lead a guided discussion on local recycling efforts, the importance of waste reduction, and how individual actions make a difference. Participants will first view a prerecorded TED Talk by Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff: "Trash is Ruining Recycling."

    The Champaign County Climate Coalition (C4) is looking for several social media/marketing interns to share information, resources, and opportunities with the county-wide community.   • PHLUSH (Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human) is looking for student interns

    PHLUSH is a non-profit organization that helps local governments and citizen groups provide equitable public restroom availability and prepare for ecological crises with appropriate ecological toilet systems. We're looking for interns who are interested in learning more about non-profit organizations and critical sanitation justice issues. Individual work plans would be co-tailored with PHLUSH staff and potential tasks include website development, communication, research, grant-writing, fundraising, management, and public advocacy. It would be a great opportunity to gain professional skills and expand networking opportunities in the field of environmental justice.

We encourage all majors to apply to join our projects to eliminate waste, provide quality education, tackle social injustice, and more. 

  • Summer Internships: Your Hometown

    Here are recommended places to check for local jobs and internships for summer, when wanting to stay in your hometown: City/Village Offices & Department employment pages; City Park District; County Forest Preserve District; Local design firms; County Green groups/projects; Local corporations with sustainability in the news; Non-profit organizations; Arboretums or Nature Centers. Keep in mind YOU might bring some knowledge in sustainability to a role or you might bring more of the design element to a role. Think about the skills you can gain in different types of roles! Searching for these will take researching on the specific websites, not relying on google or handshake.

  • Apply for a Summer 2021 Project Team with the Community-Academic Scholars Initiative

    This initiative matches undergraduates with a faculty mentor and a community partner to address issues affecting our community. This year’s program includes 14 powerful projects from faculty across the University of Illinois that address a range of topics, including the impacts of COVID-19, poverty and social inequality, physical activity, and the role that forest preserves play in community and individual health.

    The Illinois Part-Time Job Fair is open to all students on campus seeking opportunities to make some extra money and build their career competencies while completing their academics. Opportunities at this fair are paid, non-technical positions on campus or in the Champaign/Urbana community.   • iSEE Launches Environmental Leadership Program; 2 Pilot Workshops Scheduled for Spring 2021 Semester

    iSEE is piloting two ELP workshops in Spring 2021: March 24 on environmental policy; and April 13 on corporate sustainability. Up to 25 students may register for each event, which are scheduled on campus non-instructional break days.

    Tatiana Bilbao received the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture Prize by the LOCUS Foundation in 2014 and will share her work integrating social values, collaboration and sensitive design approaches to architectural work.     Tools for Safer Chemicals—from Chemicals to Products to Organizations

    Demand for inherently safer chemicals in products and manufacturing operations is on the rise. Consumers, institutional purchasers, and retailers want products made with safer chemicals. Brands are requiring suppliers to avoid hazardous chemicals and use safer alternatives. Investors prefer companies that commit to reducing their chemical footprint. And governments are restricting the use of hazardous chemicals in products. This session will explore tools for: Identifying chemicals of concern and safer chemicals; Identifying products made with safer chemicals; Creating organizational capacity to move ahead of regulatory compliance in chemicals management.

    The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate program offers individuals the opportunity to become engaged in a community through an existing AmeriCorps VISTA project for 8, 9, or 10 weeks during the summer starting in May and ending no later than early September. Members can choose between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,000) to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend.

  • Illinois Solar Farm 2.0

    Construction is underway on Solar Farm 2.0, between First Street and U.S. Route 45, next to the Village of Savoy. ☀️

    The array will produce 20,000 MWh annually, almost tripling the university’s existing on-site renewable energy generation.😎
