Location: Remote
The HIV Integrated Community Planning Intern will support the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) by assisting with statewide HIV integrated community planning initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience in public health program planning, inter-agency collaboration, community engagement, and evaluation activities aligned with Illinois’ Integrated HIV Plan.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Illinois HIV Integrated Planning Council (IHIPC) and its subcommittees to support ongoing planning initiatives.
- Track and report activity status during IHIPC and subcommittee meetings.
- Assist with the implementation of committee recommendations and strategic planning goals.
- Draft and organize official meeting minutes in compliance with Open Meetings Act requirements.
- Support public awareness efforts by assisting with the development of educational materials and campaigns that promote best practices.
- Contribute to professional development and outreach initiatives related to HIV prevention and wellness promotion.
- Assist with the creation and distribution of quarterly newsletters.
- Manage the HIV Integrated Community Planning shared mailbox and respond to all inquiries within 24 hours.
- Conduct research and identify new opportunities aligned with the Illinois Integrated Plan and the intern’s skills and interests.
- Perform additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of integrated planning and program support.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Communication, Health Administration, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in HIV, wellness promotion, or community-based public health initiatives.
- Experience with community outreach, health education, research, or program planning.
- Familiarity with mental health systems, screening tools, or prevention strategies is preferred.
- Data analysis or public communication experience is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders in a remote environment.
Duration and Compensation:
This is an unpaid, remote internship with flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments. Hours and duration will be determined in coordination with the supervising team. Academic credit may be available depending on institutional guidelines.
