While at the University of Illinois Springfield, Hannah Adeniji signed up for the Graduate Public Service Internship (GPSI) program to do some public service internship hours. With the plan to go full time into project management work after a career in Nigeria and her time as a graduate student at the University of Illinois Springfield, Hannah came to work with the Project Management Team at OMI to fulfill her goal of helping others through her work and gaining new skills. Hannah has nothing but kind things to say about the culture and workplace at OMI. She mentions that her supervisor has been so willing to go above and beyond to help hone her skills, while also letting her contribute to large projects within OMI. Her supervisor helped her realize that with anything she is assigned, she can accomplish her tasks.
In the past, Hannah spent a lot of her time working with organizations and orphanages in Nigeria. She came into OMI with the goal of being able to make a difference for people, just like she has done in the past. Her work on several OMI projects involving medical treatment quality were moments that she will remember throughout her life. She mentioned that while she does not know what it is like to be in the shoes of those receiving certain medical treatments, she is glad that the work at OMI is supporting the cause. She gets a great sense of relief from the work that she is doing and knows that OMI is contributing great things to the medical world.
Now Hannah knows that even if she is unfamiliar with what she is asked and does not currently have the skillset, she can go and get those skills to complete the tasks. She got some great encouragement to improve her confidence and believe in herself, and she believes that a boost in confidence will help her throughout her studies and career in the future. She appreciates OMI for allowing her to work on such meaningful projects and encourages other students in her position to pursue opportunities with OMI. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes!
