  • Visiting Scientific Specialist, Botany - Illinois Natural History Survey/PRI

    INHS is seeking a Visiting Botanist to coordinate and conduct the summarization, analysis, and presentation of rare plant information in Illinois. This position will be located in Champaign, Illinois.

    This is a full-time, visiting academic professional, grant-supported, 12-month position subject to the continued availability of funding and programmatic need. The anticipated duration of available funding is currently two years. Position may become a regular, non-visiting position at a later date depending on funding and programmatic need.

  • Visiting Senior Scientific Specialist, Chemical/Research Engineering - Illinois Sustainable Technology Center

    The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center is seeking to hire a Visiting Senior Scientific Specialist, Chemical/Research Engineering to participate in research related to biochar production, nutrient removal from contaminated water, and/or fate and mitigation of emerging contaminant (e.g., pharmaceuticals and personal care products, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and/or microplastics). In particular, there is an interest in developing bioreactor and biochar sorption channel to mitigate the loading of excess nutrients into watersheds from agricultural fields, improve water quality, and thereby diminish the occurrence of harmful algal blooms. This position is based in Champaign, Illinois.

  • Executive Director -- Prairie Research Institute

    The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of the Prairie Research Institute.

    The Executive Director should be a collaborative and creative thinker, as well as a strong and engaging leader with an exceptional record of scientific achievements that demonstrate an understanding of multi-investigator, interdisciplinary activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for expressing the value of diverse cultures, fostering empathy, and improving organizations in the areas of access and representation. The Executive Director must also have significant administrative experience in bringing science to bear on public policy decisions, experience managing a scientific institute or organization of comparable scope and complexity; experience in forming and maintaining relationships with state, federal and relevant non-governmental organizations; and an established record of obtaining sponsored funding from state and federal agencies and the private sector and actively facilitating research endeavors. The Executive Director should hold a PhD or equivalent in a science, engineering or other field relevant to the mission and goals of the Institute. Familiarity with the academic research environment is essential; experience in academic administration and communicating with legislators is desirable. This is a full-time, academic position. A tenure option may be available for candidates with an academic track record appropriate for a tenured full professor at the University, or commensurately significant other qualifications.

  • Visiting Scientific Specialist, Wetlands Geology - Illinois State Geological Survey

    The Illinois State Geological Survey is seeking to hire a Visiting Scientific Specialist, Wetlands Geology (up to three, depending on applicant pool and programmatic need) to perform sponsored research on the hydrogeology and geochemistry of wetlands. 60 percent of this position will involve conducting field work and data collection.  Position is based in Champaign, Illinois.
