The University of Illinois System Virtual Retirement Planning Conference (VRPC) is taking place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. This free virtual event is designed for faculty and staff considering retirement within the next three to five years. Sessions will help you understand your benefits and plan for the transition into retirement.
Sessions include representatives from Human Resources, University Payroll & Benefits (UPB), State Universities Annuitants Association (SUAA), State Universities Retirement System (SURS), and Social Security. SURS sessions will cover Tier I benefits and State insurance.

Sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end by 3:15 p.m. You only need to register for the sessions that interest you, with no requirement to attend the full conference. Join from your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
Can’t Attend Live?
Session recordings will be available after the conference. All employees invited will receive a link via email approximately one week after the event.
While a live SURS Tier II Traditional and Portable session will not be offered at this event, you can view the Understanding Your SURS Benefits - Tier II recording on the SURS Videos page at your convenience.
Approved Event Status
A portion of this conference is an approved event under Policy and Rules for Civil Service Staff, Rule 11.12. Overtime eligible employees may be released up to two and one-half hours from work to attend or view the live event sessions, operational needs permitting, and subject to prior supervisor approval. Employees will need to use available leave time for any scheduled work time spent attending this event beyond the two and one-half hours.
