Tamara Bertrand Jones, associate dean for faculty affairs and Education Policy, Organization & Leadership professor, and Helen Neville, chair and professor of Educational Psychology, have each been named Big Ten Academic Alliance fellows for 2025-26.
Bertrand Jones will participate in the Academic Leadership Program. This yearlong, extensive leadership development program is specifically oriented to address the challenges of academic administration at major research universities and help faculty members prepare to meet those challenges.
Neville will participate in the Department Executive Officers Seminar, which brings together department heads and chairs from across the Big Ten. Topics range from conflict resolution and mentoring to faculty development, performance reviews, and group problem-solving.
Bertrand Jones and Neville are a part of ten faculty members from the University of Illinois to be selected for the BTAA Leadership Institute.
“The BTAA Leadership Institute empowers the next generation of academic leaders with valuable training and tools tailored to the complexities of major research universities like Illinois,” said U. of I. Provost John Coleman. “These leaders will emerge ready to lead successfully in today’s higher education environment. I congratulate each of the outstanding faculty and leaders selected to participate. This recognition speaks volumes about their potential and dedication.”
