Two College of Education Almunae and one staff member were honored by the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual awards.
Danielle Murchison, BS Middle Grades Education '18 and current Ed.M. EPOL student, won the 2023 Excellence in Middle School Mathematics Teaching Award, which "honors one outstanding middle school mathematics teacher each year." Murchison teaches at Jefferson Middle School in Champaign, IL.
Hannah Ruedy, Ed.M. C&I '22, of Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, IL, was honored with the 2023 Illinois Promising New Teacher of Mathematics Award. This award goes to "one outstanding new teacher each year who has started his or her teaching career with tremendous success."
Also awarded this year was Joe Muskin, Education Coordinator for Mechanical Science and Engineering and staff member of the Office for Mathematics, Science, & Technology Education. Muskin was given the Fred Flener Award: Engaging Students in Math Beyond the Classroom, which honors one outstanding person each year who has fostered students' learning of mathematics outside of the normal classroom environment.
