Elise S. Ahn, Ph.D. '11 EPOL, has been named the Director of Operations and Outreach for the SkAI Institute, an NSF-backed Artificial Intelligence Institute.
Led by Northwestern University in collaboration with The University of Chicago, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Illinois Chicago, and the Adler Planetarium, NSF-Simons SkAI will tackle exceptionally complex problems in astrophysics and astronomy across a broad range of cosmic scales, from the physics of exotic objects like neutron stars and black holes to the formation of galaxies and the role that dark matter and dark energy play across the entire universe.
Ahn will establish operational strategies for the institute and expand outreach initiatives to foster greater collaboration and impact within the AI and STEM community across Illinois and beyond.
Her research interests focus on the intersection of space, structure, and scale in examining the effects of internationalization in education and policy production processes. She is also interested in issues related to language, education, and equity/access, focusing on urban contexts.
