Cynthia Watson, LAS '11 Secondary Education, has been named principal at Champaign's Edison Middle School.
Watson joined Unit 4 in January 2024 as the district's Director of School Improvement. She has also served in school leadership roles for Chicago Public Schools.
Watson began her career in education in August 2011 when she joined Teach for America as a second-grade teacher and later a High School Social Studies Teacher at Fall Creek Academy in Indianapolis, IN. She later taught in schools in Chicago, teaching social studies and language arts.
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, she joined Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and served there for four years. During that time, she was an Assistant Principal, Resident Principal, and an MTSS Instructional Support Lead.
