Four Education at Illinois faculty members were key in developing a new training for Illinois Teachers.
Mari Altshuler, teaching assistant professor C&I, Jon Hale, professor EPOL, Aixa Marchand, assistant professor EPSY, and Asif Wilson, assistant professor C&I, worked with the Illinois Department of Human Rights to create the training in connection with the Illinois Racism-Free Schools Law.
The law requires every school in Illinois to adopt a written anti-discrimination policy, train employees on how to recognize and report discrimination, and inform students and families of their rights and reporting options.
Teachers, administrators, and school officials may access the training on the Ed Leaders Network (ELN). Public school educators in the State of Illinois receive free ELN access through a partnership with ISBE and the Illinois Principals Association (IPA). School districts or educators without ELN access may access a version of the training via the IDHR website at no cost.
