Excellence Professor Dr. Kern Alexander, a faculty member in the Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership, will be the 2016 Distinguished Educational Research Lecturer at the College of Education at Kansas State University.
The college launched the Distinguished Educational Research Lecture Series in 2013 as part of its Faculty Mentoring Program. The goals were to provide an outstanding academic role model for junior faculty and graduate students, to promote advanced research dialogue among faculty and graduate students, and to accelerate the development of academic research networks. Previous lecturers include Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, Dr. Chris Dede, and Dr. Sonia Nieto.
"The college looks forward to hosting Dr. Alexander’s visit to campus this fall when our students and faculty will have unprecedented access to this true icon of education finance," said Dean Debbie Mercer. "We anxiously await this legendary scholar’s visit to campus."
Alexander's current research interests include education finance and law. He has worked extensively as an expert in state school finance litigation, and his work has been cited in law reviews, law journals, and appellate court decisions. He is the editor of the Journal of Education Finance, which is distributed by the University of Illinois Press. Additionally, Alexander has an ongoing research interest in elementary and secondary education, and in higher education administration, finance, and law.
