Congratulations to two-time Education alumnus Brian Brauer, who has been chosen to serve as the campus’s first Executive Director of Emergency Management! The following message from Executive Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Alice Cary was sent on February 2, 2022:
I am pleased to announce that Brian Brauer has been chosen to serve as our campus’s first Executive Director of Emergency Management. He began in this role Tuesday under the Division of Public Safety.
Brian comes to us from the Illinois Fire Service Institute, where he served most recently as Associate Director. During the past two years, he has been an integral part of our campus response to the COVID-19 pandemic. His responsibilities included the creation of and initial training for the Wellness Support Associate program; membership on the COVID Operations Leadership Team and the COVID Executive Steering Committee; and supporting the Champaign County mass vaccination program.
In his role at IFSI, Brian has spent more than two decades educating and training firefighters throughout the state of Illinois. The fire service has many intersections with Emergency Management, and Brian will now lead a Public Safety team dedicated to preparing our campus for natural and man-made disasters – including severe weather, pandemics and terrorism.
Brian is also a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign alumnus, with a master’s degree in Global Human Resource Development and a doctoral degree in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership.
Emergency Management affects every unit on campus. Its priorities are the safety of our campus community members and the continued operation of university business under the most difficult circumstances. Brian’s experience and demonstrated leadership skills will be invaluable to furthering that mission.
I hope you will join me in congratulating Brian Brauer, and I encourage all of us to use this new position as an opportunity to forge partnerships that will enhance campus safety.
