Consuelo L. Waight, Ed.M. '97 EPOL, Ph.D. '02 EPOL, has been selected for a Fulbright award to Belize by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Dr. Waight is an associate professor in human resource development and a director of the executive and traditional options in the Master of Science in HRD degree in the College of Technology at the University of Houston.
Waight earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Belize and was awarded a Fulbright Student Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in human resource development in the College of Education at Illinois.
“The Fulbright Scholar award provides an opportunity for me to give back to the University of Belize, the institution that prepared me to compete successfully at the graduate level at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign," Waight said. "I'm grateful to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for this amazing opportunity to have this 'full circle' experience.”
Waight said her professors in the human resource development program at the College of Education at Illinois fostered an environment of lifelong learning, creativity, and leadership. One of her defining experiences as a student was conducting e-learning research with a cross-disciplinary team at National Center Supercomputing Applications.
"That experience prompted me to collaborate with the College of Engineering at the University of Houston on an NSF grant. I have tremendous gratitude to the professors, staff, and my fellow graduate students in the HRD program and the College of Education for many opportunities that enriched my scholarly and professional development," she said.
Starting September 1, Waight will spend a semester at the University of Belize to study the institution's human resource capacity and needs; assist in the design and development of a leadership training institute; and teach a course on design and management of training programs.
