Fulbright Scholarship recipient Avanti Chajed ’13 C&I will travel to Finland in August to pursue a master’s degree in education, according to a July 7 article in The News-Gazette.
"My aim in going to grad school is to improve education for underprivileged students here," Chajed told N-G writer Claire Hettinger. "I've seen how they have special needs and our curriculum doesn't necessarily address those needs.”
According to the N-G piece, Chajed is a Champaign native who has taught at a school in India, as well as at Northview Elementary in Rantoul and at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Urbana.
As she prepares to conduct research and learn overseas, Chajed said she is looking forward to the "newness" of Finland and can't wait to explore its landscapes and the scenery of Europe.
