Regina Sierra Carter, Ph.D. ’16 EPOL, is a teaching and learning librarian at the University of Virginia who recently contributed a piece to Inside Higher Ed called “Hidden Figures: Librarians.”
In the essay, Carter explains why graduate students should consult librarians more often, and why she wishes she would have utilized their services earlier on as a graduate student.
“Becoming acquainted with your college/university librarians is not simply a nicety,” she writes. “Instead, it is a necessity—especially if you would like to maintain your sanity and boost your scholarship.”
At the end of the piece Carter offers tips on how to effectively utilize librarians, mentioning their vast knowledge of services and resources, their willingness to help, and their non-judgmental attitudes as students pursue last-minute assistance.
