Congratulations to SPED professor Amy Santos, graduate student Grace Sawyer, and alumna and local practitioner Teresa O'Connor, who all won awards at the recent international Council for Exceptional Children's Division for Early Childhood 2022 Conference recently held in Chicago.
Of the six recognized at the conference, three awardees are from the Department of Special Education at Illinois:
- Amy Santos, UI associate provost for faculty affairs and professor of Special Education, was awarded the 2022 DEC Mary McEvoy Service to the Field Award
- Grace Sawyer, current master's degree student in early childhood special education, was awarded the 2022 DEC Student Award
- Teresa O'Connor, Ed.M. '10 SPED, one of the department's local cooperating professionals and early childhood special education graduate student mentors, was awarded the 2022 Rose C. Engel Award for Excellence in Professional Practice.
