Dennis -

As I was reading your post, I couldn't help but wonder what this research means for online learning that is becoming increasingly popular.  It seems a logical leap, based on research that indicates the necessity of personal interaction for language learning, that online classes in composition will always be less effective than f2f classes, if for no other reason than there is a new vocabulary that goes with learning to write more effectively.  Still, that seems a bit simplistic to me even as I write it, and I wonder how, or if, this research affects composition teachers and administrators at all.

I thought it was just because I was intellectually lazy, that I absorb information better if someone tells it to me than if I read it.(and those madelines probably wouldn't have inspired Proust too strongly--they're overdone! But such is the power of the madeline that now I'm craving one, so maybe they would have)
