The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as an Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities of Position
As an intern, you will assist professional staff in the office and in the field on a wide variety of projects. Engineering Interns will assist with City engineering services, construction site inspections, infrastructure mapping and data management projects. The hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position will begin in mid-May and conclude in August, 2018.
Required Qualifications
• Currently, and will be in Fall 2018, enrolled in a college-level program leading to an Associate of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Technology, or a Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field of study
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications
• Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and place it on a truck, with or without accommodation
• Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Surveying experience
• Construction inspection experience
• Customer service experience
• Experience with geographical information systems (GIS) software programs
• Experience with computer aided drafting (AutoCAD) programs
