  • Industrial Decarbonization Fellowship with the U.S. Department of Energy

    The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Science, Technology, and Policy (STP) Program serves as a next step in the educational and professional development of scientists and engineers by providing opportunities to participate in policy-related projects in Washington, D.C.  Participants will become part of a group of highly-trained scientists and engineers with the education, background, and experience to be part of the workforce that supports the DOE's mission in the future.  

    The Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.  With 30% of primary energy-related emissions attributable to the industrial sector, IEDO plays an important role in supporting the reduction of U.S. CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels) and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

    IEDO is seeking talented and passionate Fellows interested in supporting technical, programmatic, strategic, and policy efforts aimed at decarbonizing the industrial sector.

    Each fall, the Multicultural Engineering Recruitment for Graduate Education Program (MERGE) invites a group of prospective students, which includes women, persons from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in STEM, and people of all physical abilities, to connect with representatives and current graduate students from their programs of interest, learn about our application process, and explore graduate school funding.

    This year, MERGE will hold their virtual visit event on Friday, September 22.  They will also select a group of virtual event attendees for a sponsored visit to campus on October 26-27.

    The Illinois Club provides scholarships to outstanding students in the areas of global studies, humanities and social sciences, science and engineering, education, and art.  Eligible students are undergraduates at UIUC who will have earned at least 60 credit hours by the Spring 2024 semester and expect to graduate no earlier than December 2024.  A minimum GPA of 3.0 is also expected.

    SULI Program Overview

    The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 17 participating DOE laboratories/facilities. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission.

  • 2024 Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Preselection for Illinois Students

    The Illinois preselection period is now open for Mayo Clinic’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), a 10-week program that invites students to work alongside Mayo Clinic researchers on cutting-edge biomedical research.

    This special preselection process allows University of Illinois students to submit their SURF application to a selection committee of Illinois faculty and staff.  Up to seven of Mayo Clinic’s prestigious fellowships are reserved for Illinois sophomores and juniors who are seriously considering a biomedical research career as a PhD or MD-PhD.  Eligibility and program details can be found on the Mayo Clinic & Illinois Alliance website

    The deadline to apply is Monday, November 6.
