On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in the United States. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. As we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of ADA, the University of Illinois Counseling Center acknowledges that great progress has been made to ensure that all people have equal access to education, employment, transportation, and public spaces, there is still more to do.
We are proud that our campus is known as one that is known for being accessible to people with disabilities and we are firmly committed to ensuring this is always the case. As mental health professionals, we see every day the importance of campus resources that increase access and include all students. Please consider joining us for events throughout the year on campus that celebrate how far the ADA has brought us and reflect upon what challenges still remain.
