Beginning in Spring 2017, the Counseling Center will offer a new, short-term group option. RIO, which stands for recognition, insight, and openness, is three session group that focuses help people with their emotional concerns.
The group has the following objectives:
- Become aware of moment-to-moment experiences.
- Gain tools to recognize your concerns.
- Take action in becoming open and accepting of your experiences.
- Develop a roadmap to change based on personal values and goals.
RIO combines the latest evidence-based practices to introduce a variety of tools that can be applied for years to come. These tools may be conceptual (such as introducing useful metaphors or thinking strategies) or experiential (such as introducing mindfulness techniques to shift your interactions with your internal experiences). Group members are encouraged to share experiences, discuss homework, and offer support as members work toward making changes. Group members will be expected to engage in exercises at home between sessions. Group members must be able to commit to all three dates of a series to participate. Each group member will receive a workbook.
