Job Summary
The ComEd Education Instructor position is designed to build a foundation for the professional fields of environmental education and interpretation. The duties include teaching programs for school groups, scouts, summer day camps, and public programs. This position provides input and assists with the development of new programs and also helps organize and inventories educational supplies and equipment. Assists with special events. This position will work one weekend day per week and some evenings except during the summer day camp season when the work schedule is primarily Mondays through Fridays. Responsible for the Welcome Center operations on weekends and some weekdays. The position is responsible for animal care including maintenance and feedings of reptiles, amphibians, and raptors. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting. Performs lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.
Experience
Two years of course work in earth sciences, natural resources, education, interpretation or a related field. Teaching experience preferred. Must have enthusiasm and respect for people, teaching, and the environment. Education and communication skills are necessary to present educational programs for large and small groups of children and adults. Ability to operate audio-visual equipment and word processing software. Upon employment, must successfully complete and obtain certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Ability to be flexible and work with a variety of personalities and work environments. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
