  • Media Relations Award

    Our Media Relations award this year goes to Rob Rutenbar. Rob is a professor and the head of the department of computer science.

    While many computer scientists can be a bit media-shy, Rob has led by example in his responsiveness to media queries and his seeking of opportunities to tell the Illinois story on regional and national platforms. (Click image to read more.)

  • Branding Leadership Award

    The winner of the Branding Leadership Award for 2015 is Joseph Bajjalieh.

    Joe originally was hired by the Cline Center for Democracy to do data management and analytics, but when he saw that their website was in need of an overhaul, he stepped into help. (Click image to read more.)

  • Innovation in Marketing Award

    Our next award is for Innovation in Marketing, and this year, we have two winners: Jordan Phoenix and Nicole Nair (NIE-err).

  • Crisis Communications Award

    The Crisis Communications Award goes to Kent Brown, Associate Athletics Director/Media Relations.

    For most communications professionals on campus, it’s a big challenge to get the media to pay attention to your unit. For the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, however, the challenge often is how to get the media to stop writing about you. (Click image to read more.)

  • Team Player Award

    Next, our Team Player Award goes to the University Housing communications team: Kirsten Ruby, Erin Ciciora, Andrew Gleason and Laura Cynkar.

    These folks represent teamwork on campus like nobody else. Whether it’s helping us produce our national halftime spot, taking reporters out to lunch or letting us use their beautiful spaces (like where we are today), the University Housing team has gone above and beyond.   • Social Media Award

    Public Affairs has a new award this year - the Social Media Award, and our inaugural winner is Claire Benjamin.

  • Communicator of the Year

    The Communications Professional of the Year is Pat Wade. Although he’s only been with the U of I Police Department for about a year, Pat has made a big difference.

    Before he joined the department, they were at the mercy of Public Affairs for help with everything from writing up the daily police blotter reports to responding to crises – in real time at all hours of the day or night. (Click image to read more.)
