Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Laurie R. Johnson has accepted the position of Director of the Campus Honors Program (CHP). Professor Johnson has been serving as Interim Director since May. She is committed to our goals of strengthening the program, broadening opportunities for faculty involvement, and enriching collaborative relationships between students and faculty. Dr. Johnson previously served as Interim Associate Director of the School of Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics, and as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director of Graduate Studies, and Acting Head of her home department, Germanic Languages and Literatures. She also has campus affiliations in the Program in Comparative and World Literature and Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory.
Dr. Johnson received her B.A. in International Politics and German Studies from Northwestern University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in German from Washington University. Her research focuses on eighteenth- through twenty-first-century intellectual history, literature, philosophy, and visual studies, with emphasis on Romanticism and its afterlives. She has taught at public and private universities, a liberal arts college, a community college, and on the high school level. In addition, Dr. Johnson has coached faculty around the country for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity.
Dr. Johnson’s accomplishments as a teacher and scholar, along with her leadership expertise, make her an ideal leader for the Campus Honors Program.
