Dear colleagues:
The Strategic Hiring Initiative - Cluster Hire program affirms the university’s commitment to create opportunities for diverse scholars from across disciplines to collaborate on topics that have the potential to lead to creative solutions to vexing societal problems.
A call for proposals went out in April 2023 for multi-unit themed cluster hires that connect with campus priorities identified in The Next 150 strategic plan. We received 11 proposals from across campus and are pleased to announce the four proposals that have been selected for funding.
Selection of the proposals was based on feedback received from a review team of deans, institute directors, and faculty members. The selected proposals include:
Climate Impacts, Risk, and Inequality

Neuro-Informatics: Big Data Computational Systems Neuroscience

Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Digital Transformation
Participating departments: Law; Computer Sciences (Grainger); Electrical and Computer Engineering (Grainger)
AI for Community Health
Participating departments: Computer Sciences (Grainger); Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering (Grainger); Kinesiology and Community Health (AHS); Recreation, Sport, and Tourism (AHS)
These selected proposals represent a commitment by each participating unit to search for candidates with expertise relevant to the theme.
