Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to inform you of the recent relaunch of Provost Communication 9, Promotion and Tenure Public Engagement Research Option (PERO), which faculty members may select as a pathway for tenure and promotion (PERO; see II.C.8 of Provost Communication 9). Updates include a revised PERO guide and revised PERO Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The newly developed sample PERO-MOU is an especially valuable tool for faculty members and executive officers to use as they develop their MOUs.
Additionally, the recently formed Task Force on the Implementation of the Public Engagement Research Option will work to develop and refine the implementation process outlined in Provost Communication 9. As they work on defining the composition, mission, primary tasks, and responsibilities of the PERO Advisory Committee, they will initially serve as the primary resource for individual faculty members considering PERO for their promotion and tenure, as well as for unit executive officers.
If you have questions on revisions to PERO, please send queries to Amy Santos, rsantos@illinois.edu.
Sincerely,
John Coleman
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost
