Dear Colleagues,
As part of our commitment to accessibility and compliance with ADA Title II, the university is working to ensure all digital content—including websites, online courses, and applications—is fully accessible by April 2026. This effort aligns with our institutional history of pioneering accessibility solutions and provides an opportunity to set a new standard for digital accessibility.
As we continue to work on this initiative, we have developed a Digital Accessibility FAQ. While many of the tools and support resources are still in development, the FAQ outlines common questions for this project.
Project Progress
The university is taking a collaborative and strategic approach to this effort. The Digital Accessibility and Excellence Steering Committee and implementation groups include faculty across colleges and staff experts from departments and units such as the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, University Library, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Office for Access and Equity, and Disability Resources and Educational Services. These groups are:
- Reviewing our digital assets to identify areas needing improvement.
- Focusing on key areas such as electronic documents, multimedia, web content, training, software, and communications.
Upcoming Resources & Support
We are actively developing resources to assist all stakeholders in meeting these federal standards. As additional tools, training, and support are rolled out, we will keep you informed. Upcoming resources include:
- Accessibility website (Coming 2025): This upcoming website will serve as a central hub for comprehensive resources and tools for faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
- Workshops and training (Ongoing into 2025): Expanding on fall 2024 efforts, these sessions provide practical guidance for creating accessible course materials, documents, and web content—without requiring deep expertise in accessibility standards. Increased workshop availability in 2025 will support faculty, staff, and stakeholders at all experience levels.
Thank you for your leadership in supporting this important initiative. Together, we have an opportunity to lead in setting new standards for digital accessibility in higher education as we comply with the updated ADA requirements.
Sincerely,
John Coleman
