Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Professor John C. Hart has agreed to join the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost’s leadership team as Director of the Office of Professional Education. In this role John will expand our non-degree offerings, developing professional programs that provide educational opportunities for those seeking to deepen their knowledge in an area or transition to new careers. These programs will increase the impact, scale, scope, efficiency, and sustainability of the University’s professional education activities, including graduate certificates, professional master’s degree programs, non-credit courses, and collaborative external partnerships. Through his efforts we believe our University will offer greater access, increase diversity, and stand out as a national leader in professional education.
John joined the University of Illinois in 2000 as a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science. He launched the online MCS-Data Science program in 2016 and continues to teach his online data visualization course to hundreds of students each summer. John also served as the Executive Associate Dean of the Graduate College for the past six years and in 2021 was awarded the Campus Award for Excellence in Online & Distance Teaching.
Please join me in welcoming John to this new role.
Sincerely,
Lisa Monda-Amaya
Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
