Dear Colleagues,
In order to better reflect the breadth of its work and its growing role in supporting data-informed decision-making across the university, the Division of Management Information (DMI) has been formally renamed the Office of Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research (DAIR) effective Wednesday, August 19.
This reimagining of the university’s institutional research office also includes a redesigned website with enhanced functionality, improved access to reports and dashboards, and a more user-friendly experience for all stakeholders. The new site will also be available on Wednesday, August 19.
What enhanced features will be available on the new site?
- Many reports and systems have been transitioned to interactive dashboards and self-service analytics tools, making it easier to explore data, view trends over time, and access historical information without downloading and comparing multiple files.
- Information about the university's Institutional Data Governance, including governance structure, data domains, and the roles and responsibilities that support the quality, stewardship, and appropriate use of institutional data.
- A centralized FAQ page and data glossary have been added to help users find answers to common questions and better understand institutional data, terminology, and reporting concepts.
In the future, DAIR will continue to enhance the site by expanding dashboard offerings, self-service analytics resources, and data documentation. We are also modernizing key systems to create a more intuitive, accessible, and efficient user experience. Further communication will be sent as those changes happen.
While the office's name and website are changing, several important aspects will remain the same:
- Data governance processes remain unchanged.
- Data quality standards will continue to be maintained.
- Existing contacts and support services will remain available.
- DAIR will continue to report to the Office of the Provost.
What do these changes mean for me?
In the course of your regular workflow, you may now need to look for or adjust for the new office name. Please note new codebook names for the office:
- 5 Character: DAIR
- 20 Character: Data, Analytics & IR
- 30 Character: Data, Analytics & IR
- Full Title: Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research
Additionally, if your college, department, or unit website currently links to the DMI website, please update those links to the new site following the launch.
We look forward to introducing these enhancements and continuing to support the university community's growing need for reliable, accessible, and actionable institutional data.
Please share this information across your unit as appropriate. Thank you for your attention to and adoption of this new office name throughout your work.
Sincerely,
John Coleman
