Dear Colleagues,
Public Act 103-0804 amends the Illinois Human Rights Act to prohibit the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in employment decisions if it results in unlawful discrimination and to also notify job applicants about the use of AI. The law takes effect on January 1, 2026.
A system-wide committee reviewed the legislation and our existing policies and guidelines. In the coming weeks, universities will update their hiring guidelines to incorporate specific requirements and guidance on appropriate use of AI in searches.
As of January 1, 2026, job postings for all employee groups should include the following language:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools may be used in some portions of the candidate review process for this position, however, all employment decisions will be made by a person.
