blog posts AY 2023-24 Provost Fellows Program: Call for Nominations Jul 14, 2023 8:15 am by Amy Santos, Acting Executive Vice ProvostThe Office of the Provost seeks nominations for candidates for two Provost Fellow positions for the 2023-2024 academic year.The Provost Fellows Program offers a unique opportunity for University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign tenured faculty to develop leadership skills at the campus level. Fellows assume leadership roles on critical campus strategic initiatives and projects, designed in conjunction with the Fellow’s individual interests and longer-range career goals. Fellows also participate in a range of mentoring and learning opportunities, collaborate with colleagues in the Office of the Provost, as well as with other academic and administrative offices across campus. The Provost Fellow for Evaluating Teaching Excellence will take a key leadership role in putting into action the recommendations of the 2021 Task Force on Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness by defining and implementing the new approaches to evaluating teaching performance, including developing student evaluation instruments, tools for peer evaluation, and training opportunities for new and continuing faculty members, consistent with our ongoing mission and commitment to effective teaching.The Provost Fellows will be instrumental in working with the Provost’s Office to develop guidance and resources for units to enhance their capacity to conduct teaching evaluations that support faculty members throughout their careers. To better understand the teaching landscape on campus, the Fellows will be asked to serve on the Teaching Advancement Board, collaborate with CITL, and lead a working group that will be formed to assist in developing and implementing teaching evaluation guidelines and tools. They will also be expected to reach out to various partners across campus including but not limited to the Faculty Senate, relevant campus units, departments, schools, and colleges. Provost Fellow appointments are for one year at 50% time, with support for summer activities and with possible renewal for a second academic year. This year, we are seeking two fellows: A tenured faculty member, with preference for a full professor; and A specialized faculty member on the professorial track, with preference for a teaching full professor. To nominate a faculty member for the program, please submit the following:A short statement from the nominee summarizing their interests and professional goals (no more than one page).An abbreviated curriculum vitae (five pages maximum) highlighting the candidate’s knowledge and experiences related to teaching and mentoring in higher education, teaching pedagogy, and instructional assessment. A letter of endorsement signed by the nominee’s dean and unit executive officer. Faculty members can self-nominate by following the same process prescribed above. The Office of the Provost will solicit endorsement of self-nominations from the faculty member’s unit executive officer and dean.Nomination materials must be submitted via this form by August 1, 2023.Your assistance in identifying distinguished faculty with an interest in leadership roles is critical to the success of this program.
