Hopefully, you remember receiving the International Privacy communication sent by Vice President Paul Ellinger on October 29, 2024. As stated in the message, international privacy laws continue to become more pervasive and we must respond by implementing new policies and procedures to ensure that we are in compliance with these new regulations.
The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) Privacy Task Force requests your assistance in this effort by taking the following actions:
- Encourage the faculty, staff, and administrators in your unit to familiarize themselves with international privacy laws by reviewing the international privacy website and watching the GDPR at the University of Illinois video on our YouTube Channel or website.
- Incorporate international privacy as a topic in a future faculty and/or department/unit meeting.
- Consider inviting members of the PIPL Privacy Task Force to address your unit and answer any questions they may have by contacting privacy@uillinois.edu.
- Reiterate to faculty, staff, and administrators that it is everyone’s responsibility to be aware of international privacy laws to protect both the institution and themselves from liability.
The PIPL Privacy Task Force will be addressing various groups across the system and universities with more targeted information, but consistent messaging from unit leadership is important throughout the next several months as communications rollout.
Thank you for your assistance in ensuring that we are compliant with international privacy laws.
Sincerely,
The PIPL Privacy Task Force
