Dear colleagues:
As you have surely heard, a federal government shutdown now appears likely. Barring last-minute changes, federal agencies will suspend certain operations starting Sunday, October 1. We have been here before, and we know this shutdown will have an impact on the university’s research enterprise.
Our Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) team has shared detailed information about impacts to proposal submissions, new awards and pending actions, and award management. In summary:
- Researchers may continue to submit proposals, adhering to currently posted proposal deadlines.
- Investigators should contact their local business office if they need to request an anticipation account.
- Individual departments may backstop the salaries of graduate students or others paid with federal funds while we await reimbursement.
If you have additional questions about the impact of the shutdown on our sponsored research portfolio, please contact spa@illinois.edu.
Sincerely,
John J. Coleman
