Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to invite undergraduate and graduate students in your college or unit to participate in the Summer 2021 We CU Community Engaged Scholars program.
We CU helps students build their resume/CVs and develop their professional skillsets with training, connection to like-minded peers, access to service opportunities with partner organizations and support from program leaders. Students participating in We CU are empowered to make a difference in their community, develop leadership skills and enrich their university experience.
Last summer, a group of 232 students across the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus became the first cohort of We CU Community Engaged Scholars. A year later, the program has grown to include 867 students and more than 100 community partners. These students will be celebrated during a May 24 recognition ceremony for collectively completing nearly 22,000 hours of service, with special honor given to those earning the We CU Community Engaged Scholars distinction. We hope you join us in congratulating these students for representing and embracing our university’s mission to serve the community.
We CU supports our community while expanding high quality and interdisciplinary learning opportunities and community engagement activities for students across the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. Please encourage representation from your college, department or institute in this program by sharing the one-page program summary with appropriate faculty, staff and students in your unit.
Students can enroll in the Summer 2021 program by visiting wecu.illinois.edu/join-we-cu.
Sincerely,
Wanda E. Ward
Executive Associate Chancellor for Administration and University Relations
