Colleagues,
Following up on the October 1 message about Winter Session enrollment projections and scholarships, I am writing to share more regarding scholarship eligibility details. Please do not share information broadly with students, as eligible students will be receiving targeted email informing them of their eligibility from the Office of Student Financial Aid.
The Illinois Winter Session Scholarship Program will offer a free Winter Session course to students that are Pell-eligible and are a recipient of one of the follow scholarship awards:
- Illinois Promise
- President’s Award Program Scholarship
- Chancellor’s Access Grant
The week of October 26, the Office of Student Financial Aid will be sending an email to all students that are eligible for this scholarship program. We are not going to announce this program widely, because we are concerned that students will be confused about eligibility. The program is by no means a secret; we just didn’t want to have lots of students confused about eligibility.
Eligible students will receive the award automatically if they register for a 2020-2021 Winter Session course. No additional application or paperwork is necessary. The scholarship is specifically for this Winter Session, and funding cannot be applied to another semester. We have advised all eligible students to contact their academic advisor to discuss whether enrollment in a course over the winter break is advisable, because we realize that a Winter Session course is not in the best interest of every student. Please also remember that the deadlines for Winter Session registration are strictly enforced; we do not make exceptions for late registration due to the timeline and compressed nature of the courses. Also, enrollment remains limited to undergraduate students.
A version of this message with the student email appended will be shared via the advising listserv, ADVIS-L. Thanks for your help and support.
Sincerely,
Kathy Martensen
