Dear Colleagues,
To maximize the safety of all university employees and students, Emergency Management is implementing Riskonnect, a new online system to maintain current and accessible emergency data for university buildings.
Why this is important:
- Creating the safest working environment for university employees is a priority. A component in that safe environment is maintaining up-to-date plans for every building as required by OSHA. This system will make it easier to help all units proactively meet federal safety requirements.
- This new system will ensure that emergency contact lists and response plans are up-to-date and readily available, which is crucial in the event of an emergency.
- It strengthens the ability to respond quickly and effectively, helping keep our buildings prepared and our staff and students safe.
What’s changing:
The transition began in February 2025 and will continue through December 2026. The new system will consolidate and update:
- Paper-based building-specific emergency action plans
- Emergency contacts and procedures from outdated software programs
- Paper-based university emergency response guides
- Business continuity plans
How this impacts your unit:
- Emergency Management will be reaching out to coordinate with each college, school or functional area through their administrative contacts.
- The administrative contacts will maintain current information but can delegate the primary contact and plan updates for specific buildings to facility contacts.
- During an incident, facility contacts will be contacted first, with administrative contacts serving as backups.
Please review the implementation schedule and contact brbrauer@illinois.edu with any questions.
Thank you for your support in making our campus safer by being more proactive and prepared for emergencies.
Best,
Brian Brauer
Executive Director of Emergency Management
