Dear Colleagues,
Later today, I will be sharing with all faculty, staff, and students that after a multiyear process to assess and update teaching feedback and evaluation across our campus’s academic units, the university will transition to a new system for gathering student course feedback.
The new Feedback on the Learning Experience — or FLEX — survey will replace the Instructor and Course Evaluation System (ICES), the university’s current end-of-course student ratings system. A limited set of summer 2025 courses will begin using FLEX and then FLEX will fully replace ICES for fall 2025 courses.
The full transition timeline, as well as an FAQ covering questions for instructors, students, and administrators can be found online.
I am grateful to the many dedicated members of our Illinois community who have worked to make this transition and update possible. I also thank each of you for your leadership within your units during this transition.
Sincerely,
John Coleman
Provost
