Dear Colleagues,
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) was formally established in May 2022 within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This new agency “will support transformative high-risk, high-reward research to drive biomedical and health breakthroughs—ranging from molecular to societal—that would provide transformative solutions for all patients.”
With Illinois’ interdisciplinary strengths, successes in health innovation leading broad societal impact recently exemplified through the SHIELD program, and forthcoming guidance from the Health Innovation Visioning Committee, our university is well-positioned to respond to the mission of ARPA-H.
Understanding the unique aspects of ARPA-H will be critical in order to build the teams, networks, and partners needed to successfully compete for ARPA-H funding. As a first step, the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute (IHSI) will host a virtual information session on ARPA-H in partnership with Lewis-Burke Associates, LLC, on September 19.
Please encourage health sciences and technology researchers and professionals from your units to attend, both to learn more about this exciting new research initiative and to begin making connections that will be fostered through future efforts.
