Dear Colleagues,
Faculty leaders and administrators at the University of Illinois have demonstrated a commitment to work together on critical issues in a manner that embraces our fundamental principles of shared governance. To that end, Professor D.A. Forsyth, as Chair of the Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure and on behalf of CAFT, has authored the attached letter to provide CAFT’s perspective on procedures related to the suspension of tenured faculty members.
As referenced in the letter, the University Statutes provide the foundational guidance on these issues. The administration is committed to working with Senate partners, deans, and other stakeholders to act in a manner that is consistent with the University Statutes and policies; respects faculty rights and due process; and protects the safety and wellbeing of the campus community.
Sincerely,
Bill Bernhard
Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
