RE: AI Tools in Hiring
On August 9, 2024, Governor Pritzker signed Public Act 103-0804, amending the Illinois Human Rights Act to prohibit the use of artificial intelligence in employment decisions if it results in unlawful discrimination. The law takes effect on January 1, 2026.
A committee is currently reviewing the legislation and our existing policies to assess its impact and plan for implementation. As the effective date approaches, we will share additional guidance.
In the meantime, any use of AI in employment must comply with current policies on hiring, nondiscrimination, information security, and privacy. Please consult your relevant HR, OAE, and IT offices before making any AI-related purchasing or implementation decisions.
