Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share that Dr. Ehab Kamarah has been selected to serve as the new Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Facilities and Services, pending approval by the Board of Trustees. His title until officially approved will be Interim Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Facilities and Services.
Dr. Kamarah has been leading as Interim Executive Director of Facilities & Services since June 2021, and after a national search he has emerged as the best permanent leader for this important university unit. Before leading in this position, he was Director of Capital Programs, overseeing approximately $600 million in capital improvement projects at the university.
Before his roles at Illinois, Dr. Kamarah served as the director of Facilities Development and Engineering Services at York University and as the director of Design and Construction at McMaster University where he led the development and implementation of major capital, infrastructure renewal and energy management programs. He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Alexandria University, a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Ryerson University, a master’s and Ph.D. in Construction Management from University of Waterloo and is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.
I am confident his considerable skill, experience and passion will be critical assets as we collaborate to carry out the mission of the university’s goals and initiatives. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kamarah on his new permanent position.
